Prof. Dr. med. Klaus Goeschen
Prof. Dr. Klaus Goeschen was born in 1948 in Kiel (Germany) and studied medicine
at the University of Kiel and Lübeck from 1966 to 1972. He received his
obstetrical and gynecological training at the Martin-Luther-Hospital Berlin (Medical
Director Prof.Dr.Gerhard Martius). Scientifically he was working in the fields
of ovarian cancer, inflammation, twins, breech presentation and assessment of
gestational age in premature babies. With Prof. Martius he published his first
textbook about “Obstetrics and Gynecology in Question and Answer” and
wrote several chapters for other textbooks.
From 1979 to 1985 he was holding the position of Assistant Professor at the Free
University of Berlin Department Unit of Perinatale Medicine (Medical Director
Prof.Dr.Erich Saling). Scientifically he was working in the fields of prostaglandins,
oxytocin, cardiotocography, fetal blood analysis, hypotension in pregnancy, induction
of lung maturity, drug treatment in pregnancy, caesarean section, epidural anaesthesia,
fetal dystrophia and diseases in pregnancy. During this time he published more
than 100 scientific papers and gave more than 160 lectures in various countries
of the world. In 1979 the first edition of his book “Cardiotocography
Practice “ was published. The 6th edition has been available since 2004.
Clinically he was working as assistant medical director at the the Department
of Obstetrics and gynecology at the Berlin Neukölln Hospital, in which
the above mentioned unit of Perinatal Medicine was included. With more than 3000
deliveries and more than 5000 operations per year this hospital was one
of the biggest in Germany.
In connection with his university lecturing qualifications he worked at the Cornell
University in New York with Profs. Dr. Anna-Riita and Fritz Fuchs. This cooperation
resulted in numerous scientific publications and lectures. In 1984 he got the “Venia
legendi” and the titel of “Private Lecturer” at the Free University
of Berlin.
From 1985 to 1995 he was holding the position of assistant medical director
at the Department of Obstetrics and gynecology, University of Hannover (Medical
Director Prof.Dr. Jörg Schneider and Prof.Dr. Adalbert Majewski). He focused
mainly on non-invasive, organ-preserving laparoscopy and vaginal reconstructive
pelvic surgery as well as cancer surgery. In cooperation with Dr. Pluta he
developed the first computer program for the Perinatal Data Base in Germany.
In 1989 he obtained the position of a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology
at the University of Hannover.
From 1995 to 2001 he was Medical Director at the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology at the Klinikum Osnabrück. He set up his priorities in vaginal,
abdominal and laparoscopic reconstructive pelvic surgery. In cooperation with
Prof.Dr. Peter Petros, Perth Australia, he created new vaginal, minimal-invasive
operative techniques for reconstructive pelvic floor surgery on the basis of
the Integral Theory and performed the first operations in Europe. Since 2000
he has been Preceptor of the AustralAsian Association of Vaginal and Incontinence
Surgeons (AAVIS).
Recent Position
In order to concentrate on reconstructive surgery, Prof.Dr.Klaus Goeschen gave
up his position as clinical director at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
at the Klinikum Osnabrück and took over the position of head of the “Kvinno
Center Germany” and the “Center of Bladder and Pelvic Floor
Repair at the Eilenriedeklinik Hannover, Germany”. With his new techniques
based on the Integral Theory he is able to cure Pelvic Floor Problems, which,
up to now, have been uncurable. These problems include Urge, Frequency, Nocturia,
Faecal and Urine Incontinence, Voiding problems, pain during sexual intercourse
and in the deep pelvis in a high percentage.
Since 2000 he has published 14 articles in major specialized journals. He
regularly lectures on the treatment of pelvic floor problems and trains colleagues
in life surgery work shops. In addition, he has physically performed advanced
pelvic surgery in many countries. During the last 2 Years he has been invited
to Spain, Switzerland, Austria, France, Turkey, Iran, Australia and Greece.
With more than 1000 vaginal, minimal-invasive reconstructive pelvic floor operations
he is one of the most experienced experts in this new field.
